We’re excited to be hosting 650 of the country’s top swimmers at this event which will be happening over six days in the first week of the school holidays.   

During this time, the championships will be taking over the entire competition pool area – pools, dive well and grandstand seating – and competitors will be exclusively using the main female and male changing rooms and toilets.   

Although the leisure pool and hydroslides will be open, there will only be very limited family change areas available.  

Should you still choose to visit Parakiore to use the leisure pool area, we encourage you to come dressed in your swimwear. The changing and toilet facilities by the community courts will be open for use.  

We are encouraging pool users to make use of our alternative pools for lane swimming while the championship event is happening. There are five centres with pools available across the city - Graham Condon, Matatiki Hornby Centre, Pioneer, Taiora QEII and Te Pou Toetoe.   

Please note that the Sensory Aqua Centre is also closed during this event.  

We will have a range of fun activities happening across the pool network during the school holidays. Please see below for more details.   

All fitness and group fitness will operate as normal; however, the centre will be busier than usual and there will be extra pressure on the carpark. Please leave extra time to get to classes.

We’re also proud to be hosting the U16 New Zealand Water Polo Championships from 8 – 11 October.   

The dive well and competition pool will be occupied from 8am-8pm during this time, however there will be limited lane swimming available in the mornings before 8am. Check availability on our website.
