  • It's been another big year at Matatiki Hornby Centre. The final push is on for the year as we round the corner on the final stretch of the construction phase of project.

Once construction wraps up early next year, the building site will be handed over to the Council for the fit-out.

This phase involves installing furniture, IT equipment and other fixtures throughout the site. All the site equipment, like pool filters and air conditioning units, also need to be tested before the centre opens to the community.

The contractors are aiming to get all of the exterior cladding and the bulk of the spouting and fascia completed before Christmas, as well as a range of other aspects of the interiors.

  • From the Traxite resin flooring, to the acoustic ceiling panels - and everything in between - the pool hall has come a long way in the last few weeks.

This is the final pool to be lined and should be all done by Christmas. The handrails have also gone in along the access ramps, and the toys in the toddlers' wet play area have been installed.

The Matatiki pool complex will include a lane pool (shown above), learn to swim pool, hydrotherapy pool, toddlers' wet play area and a spa pool.

  • In the library, the joinery and shelving is progressing well. In the rear right-hand corner below, the future children's section is shown, complete with circular reading nook. This will be a lovely spot for readers to enjoy.

  • And finally, carpet, vinyl, and lights have also now been installed in the entrance and library.
