After completing Swimsmart school-age group lessons, children can progress into mini squads where the focus is on increasing water safety skills, swimming distance and technique.
There are three levels that children progress through to develop their skills and technique:
- Bronze
- Silver
- Silver extension

- 50m freestyle in under 1 minute

Swim coaching programme
To progress from Council’s Swimsmart programme, please contact Swimming Canterbury West Coast to connect with a suitable swimming club.
Clubs offer different levels and squads that cater for all abilities through to competitive swimmers. Swimmers have the opportunity to experience racing from internal competitions to regional, national and international levels.
